Why Get a Credit Card?
In today’s world we are constantly reminded of the poor economy and hear horror stories about people deeply in debt. After reading how high consumer debt is partially responsible for the financial mess we are in, some people may start to wonder why they should get a credit card at all.
Credit cards are extremely useful and convenient and they can be used all over the world. When traveling, carrying cash may not be safe. It has to be exchanged, which costs money, and if it’s stolen, you are out of luck. Credit cards eliminate the need for carrying large amounts of money while traveling, a person just needs a little pocket money, if anything. Another reason to get a credit card is for renting a car. It’s nearly impossible to rent a car without a credit card. A debit card can’t be used, just a credit card.
Credit cards also provide security. If you break down on the roadway, having a credit card to cover your repair bill is very handy, especially if you need your car to get to work. Likewise if a major appliance breaks in your home, you can get emergency repairs knowing that you can pay the bill back shortly. Basically, it’s wise to get a credit card to cover emergency expenses if you can restrain yourself from using it for items that you wouldn’t normally buy. It’s not a license to spend freely, a credit card is a tool to use wisely.
