PostHeaderIcon Investment in the Future is the Only Investment: BYU Group & Tabreed

First established in 2001, BTU Group was a company founded to capitalize on the privatization and deregulation of the Middle Eastern and North African energy industries. The company works to secure access to key resources and projects in the power market and related industries such as Petrochemical, gas, and oil companies. BTU develops brownfield and greenfield projects, and their stock is owned by some of the regions more powerful publicly traded companies.

The 2003 purchase of 1.77 million shares of Tabreed by BTU Group is likely related to the company’s interest in the industry, and recognition of district cooling potential. District cooling has a large edge over legacy air conditioning techniques for buildings in areas of urban development. These advantages include greatly reduces price, less wasted space, less pollution, and others. Tabreed’s 22 plants chill water and then pump that water into a system of insulated pipes. These pipes carry the water to the buildings of clients, where air is then forced past the pipes to produce cheap and effective air conditioning.

THE CEO of BTU Group, Wael Almazeedi, recently said that he’d been “following Tabreed’s progress for over a year now.” In considering an investment in the company, he found the company to have a “robust” business model, and said that it bore many similarities to successful utility type companies in other countries. He eventually determined that Tabreed would represent “an exceptional long-term investment opportunity.” He especially praised the company’s world class management, and the widespread recognition of the company’s brand throughout the region.
